Where your data goes
Three pictures: what happens when you talk to Mochi, when you subscribe, and when you join the waitlist. Each box says what that place keeps. Below them, everything in one table, and how to delete it. The Privacy Policy has the full details.
When you talk to Mochi
Mochi is in early access: invited testers' versions work a little differently (we tell them how), and nobody is charged yet.
- 1 · Your phone His face Shows his face and, while he's awake, hears you. Left awake with nothing said for 30 minutes, he naps and its microphone stops. Keeps: your chats (what you asked and his replies), name, birthday, countdowns, reminders, rough location and little logs, in this phone's browser only. Unpairing with “Also erase the chats saved on this phone” clears them.
- 2 · Our relay (Railway) The messenger Passes sound and messages between your phone and your Mac as they arrive, including the words of your questions and his replies, so they show on your phone. Keeps: nothing you say. If a phone's line drops, a few messages wait in memory for a few seconds. Short technical logs, with no message contents.
- 3 · Your Mac His brain Listens for "Mochi" right on your Mac, looks at your screen only when he needs to, does the clicking and typing, and asks the AI for help. Keeps: what he remembers about you, your recent chat, the days and time you last talked (never what was said), your settings and usage counts. Overheard talk only in memory, for at most 2 minutes.
- 4 · OpenAI, through our AI service The answers Gets your question once you ask, the sentence or two said just before it, the time and the app you're in, and a screenshot when he looks. Each time he wakes up, it also gets what he remembers about you and your recent chat. Our servers pass it all along without keeping it. Keeps: what its API rules say: safety logs for up to 30 days, never used for training. We don't opt in to sharing.
Nothing he hears goes to OpenAI until you ask, and at most the last 30 seconds of what he overheard (300 characters) goes with your question. On Macs that can't recognize speech on the device, he only listens while you hold him. Holding the little Mochi on your Mac skips the phone: your Mac's microphone goes straight to box 3, and only while you hold him. If a phone is paired and online, the words of your question and his reply still pass through box 2 so they show up on it. He answers in speech bubbles, never with a voice.
When you subscribe
- 1 · You Checkout You see the price, how often you're billed and how to cancel, then agree to the renewal terms and pay. Keeps: nothing extra on your devices besides the sign-in that links Mochi to your account.
- 2 · Our payment processor The till Takes your card details directly and charges you each billing period until you cancel. Keeps: your payment details, under its own privacy policy.
- 3 · Our servers (Railway) Your account Knows your email, your plan and whether it's paid, and counts how much you use the AI. Keeps: your account, billing history and usage counts. Never your full card number, and never what you said.
Cancel any time, online or by email; you keep Mochi until the end of the period you've paid for. See the Terms.
When you join the waitlist
- 1 · You This website You type your email address. That's all we ask. Keeps: no cookies, no trackers. Only a couple of preferences in your own browser, like whether sounds are on.
- 2 · Our server (Railway) The checker Checks your address and asks Resend to send you a confirm email. Keeps: no copy of the list. Only short-lived spam counts, in memory, and logs with scrambled codes instead of addresses.
- 3 · Resend (United States) The list Stores the waitlist and sends our emails. Keeps: your email, whether you're subscribed, and records of the emails it sent you.
Your address only joins the list once you open the link in the email and tap Yes, save my spot. If you leave, we keep only your address marked "unsubscribed", so we never email you again unless you ask to join again. Leave any time from any email, or ask us to delete it.
Everything, at a glance
| What | Where it's kept | How long | How to delete it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Talk he overhears | Your Mac, in memory only | Forgotten after 2 minutes, even in a quiet room. Never saved or shown on your phone; only the last 30 seconds (300 characters) goes to OpenAI with a question. | Nothing to delete. Put him to sleep, or turn off Listen for "Mochi" in Settings, and he stops listening for his name. |
| Your questions | Sent from your Mac to OpenAI through our AI service, which doesn't keep them. The words are also kept in your recent chat on the Mac, and pass through our relay, unstored, to show on your phone. | OpenAI's safety logs: up to 30 days. On the Mac: in your recent chat (the last 20 lines, from the past 12 hours). | On the Mac, Clear His Memory… in his menu. OpenAI deletes its logs on its own schedule. |
| Screen pictures | Sent from your Mac to OpenAI through our AI service, which doesn't keep them. Only when he looks. | OpenAI's safety logs: up to 30 days. Not saved on your Mac, unless you ask him for a screenshot. | Nothing kept by us. Screenshots you asked for are in Documents/Mochi. |
| What he remembers about you | Your Macs (shared between your Macs, sealed so we can't read it), and sent to OpenAI each time he wakes up | Until you delete it. Up to 50 facts. | Ask him to forget it, or Clear His Memory… in his menu on your Mac. |
| Your recent chat, on the Mac | Your Mac, and sent to OpenAI each time he wakes up | The last 20 lines, from the past 12 hours. | Clear His Memory… clears it too. |
| Your saved chats, on the phone | That phone's browser | Up to 60 chats, until you delete them. | Delete them from Mochi's menu on the phone, or say yes to erasing them when you unpair it. |
| Other things your phone remembers | That phone's browser | Until you clear them. | Your name, birthday, countdowns, reminders, rough location (if you allowed it) and the days you chatted, focused and petted him go when you unpair with “Also erase the chats saved on this phone” ticked. Everything, including focus and pet counts and settings, goes when you clear this site's data in your browser settings. |
| Your account and subscription | Our servers | While your account is open; billing records as long as the law requires. | Cancel your subscription, then write to hi@usemochi.ai to close your account. |
| Your card | Our payment processor only. We see the last four digits, never the full number. | Under the payment processor's own rules. | Write to us and we'll ask the payment processor to delete what it doesn't have to keep by law. |
| Usage counts | Your Mac (the last 400 replies and a total per day), and our servers for your account | On the Mac, until you delete them; on our servers, while your account is open. Never what was said. | Delete the Mochi folder on your Mac (steps below); closing your account deletes ours. |
| Paired phones | Your Mac; our relay while they're connected | While paired. The relay keeps them in memory only. | Remove phones in Setup & Phones… |
| Files he makes for you | Documents/Mochi on your Mac | Until you delete them. | In Finder, like any file. |
| Your waitlist email | Resend | Until you ask us to delete it. Leaving marks it unsubscribed, so we never write again unless you ask to join again. | The leave link in any email; to erase it completely, write to hi@usemochi.ai (done within 30 days). |
| Server logs | Our host, Railway | See the Privacy Policy. | They hold scrambled codes, not your address; write to us with questions. |
Deleting everything
On your Mac
- Open Mochi's menu. Remove your phones in Setup & Phones…, then choose Clear His Memory… so your other Macs forget too.
- Quit Mochi.
- In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder… and delete each of these:
~/Library/Application Support/Mochi~/Library/Caches/com.mochihq.mochi.mac~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.mochihq.mochi.mac(and the file next to it ending in.binarycookies)~/Library/WebKit/com.mochihq.mochi.mac~/Library/Preferences/com.mochihq.mochi.mac.plist~/Documents/Mochi, if you don't want the files he made
- Drag Mochi from Applications to the Trash, and turn off his permissions in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
On your phone
- Unpair the phone from Mochi's menu and say yes to erasing the chats saved on it (this also clears your name, birthday, countdowns, reminders and rough location on that phone).
- To clear everything else, remove this site's data in your browser settings (on iPhone: Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced > Website Data), and delete Mochi from your Home Screen if you added him.
Your account and the waitlist
Deleting the app doesn't cancel your subscription, so cancel it first. Then write to hi@usemochi.ai from the address you used, and we'll close your account or remove your waitlist address (the waitlist within 30 days). We keep only the billing records the law makes us keep.
What never happens
- We never sell your information or use it for ads.
- This website loads nothing from other companies: no analytics, no trackers.
- Our servers never store what you say to Mochi or what's on your screen.
- Nobody uses your questions, your screen, his memories or your chats to train AI: not us, and not OpenAI.
- We never see your full card number.
Questions: hi@usemochi.ai.
